Don’t like Social Media, like me?

Maybe I am alone in this, but I do not like social media. I don’t use it. Some call me stubborn or antiquated, but in my mind, I am just doing what’s right for me.

However, when I decided to leave Canada, I had to concede that helpful expat communities exist on Facebook without whom it would be much more difficult to find contact and information.

And so, of course, I had to make compromises. If you know me, you also know that I despise Facebook with all their privacy issues, collecting and owning our data and photos… which will exist in perpetuity. It’s disgusting, in my personal “humble” opinion.

And yet, in order to connect with kindred people in foreign places, I caved and signed up for Facebook after all. And the affiliated WhatsApp, which is used extensively in Mexico – for all kinds of services. Even doctors can be contacted and scheduled via WhatsApp.

Resolved to use these services as much “on my terms” as possible, I only access FB on the computer (not on the phone) and I won’t check it more than once a day… So, if you’re trying to get a hold of me, please be patient.

I conclude that compromises are a part of life with other people… and there is no life without other people (not really)… so, compromises are a part of life.

If i found out a friend was in Mexico via Facebook, then I don’t think we were really “friends”but anyway… Compromise… mmmh, life…mmmh. Hope you are ok and having fun still. This was suppose to be an adventure but it sounds like it i s soul searching. Which is ok too. I will email you.
