Bucharest – Tineretului Park

Today was a nice spring day; it was comfortable in T-shirt and jeans. To appreciate the weather (knowing that it’s supposed to get colder in the next days), I went to explore another of Bucharest’s big parks: Parcul TineretuluiI, which means “the Park of the Youth.”

It’s a big park with three different elevations; I started by climbing up the hill to walk along there with a view onto the mid-level boulevard that leads along the middle of the park. The lower level has a big lake; I saw signs that prohibit many things in the lake, including fishing. As soon as I turned the corner after the sign, I saw two fishermen under the pedestrian bridge and one on the bridge with their angling rods. I like how rules are bent here by noncompliant citizens. On that note, I also saw a guy camping on a beautiful island in the lake.

I walked around the entire park and along the lake before I found a spot to sit. In Parcul Cișmigiu, there were an incredible amount of benches for people to sit while in Parcul TineretuluiI, I really did see mostly young people, true to its name, and very few benches, so you see people sitting on the grass. That’s what I did – I found a nice high spot, put my jacket down and sat on it enjoying the view and the mild weather, until first the wind kicked up and then the rain started.

By the time I got to the Metro, I was quite wet, but it was an enjoyable afternoon.
