San José del Cabo – Beach Walk

On my first day in Cabo, I couldn’t wait to get down to the beach. My AirBnB was about a half hour’s walk away from the water, and my feet were happy to get out of the hikers and touch sand and water.

Playa Azul is a wide expanse of beach with lots of space and fine sand down to the water. I was pleasantly surprised to see hardly any people, especially after my shocking experience at Puerto Vallarta’s crowded Playa de los Muertes. Here in Cabo, there was room, air, calm and quietude to enjoy myself on a solo beach walk.

The cool water revived my tired feet and I kept going further and further. I encountered rocky segments and a rock cliff with shady caves underneath. I resolved that I would sit in one of them and read a little on my way back.

I walked along Playa Azul, then continued along Playa Acapulquito and made it all the way to Playa Palmillo. Part of me wanted to keep going, but at this point, my feet were starting to protest vehemently. They’d had to climb over rocks to get from one beach to the next and walk through deep sand mixed with seashell fragments and tiny stones. So, I returned to my cave and sat on a small rock, watched the surf and the occasional vacationing couple walk past, and read a little until it got too cool in the shade.

Back at Playa Azul, I noticed that my feet liked the consistency of this beach the most. Here I could walk feet in water without worrying about too many rocks or sinking into the sand. The water was cooling my soles which felt almost raw at this point. I had been walking barefoot for two hours by then and decided to go back to the street and have lunch.

I went to Cynthia Fresh, an organic market and restaurant, where I had a big Hibiscus Iced Tea (wonderful) and a salad with roasted beets and sweet potato and grilled fish. The perfect end to a fantastic day.

  1. A little shorter this week. But sounds very relaxing. I hope you did not explore the cave open in the back of those pics by yourself! Real sand right up until the rocks and water cool! Reminds me of the Caribbean. Was that a German flag?
