After Birmingham, I made a stop in Bucharest—it felt so familiar by now that it could almost pass for a second home. I had a few good days there, but my time in Romania was running out (90 days limit). And “home” was the key word… I was missing a home. Travelling had been great, but it was time to settle down again; I was done travelling and exploring.
Vancouver had been home for sixteen years prior to my time out and travelling. It was calling me back… I craved my old routines, the familiar surroundings in Kitsilano and the west side, the farmers market and grocery stores… the people I hadn’t seen in a while.
I guess the plan of finding a new home has resulted in an interesting year for me, and has also clarified that I’d already found my home.
Returning to Vancouver in the summer helps… wonderful weather, street festivals, time spent at parks and walking or cycling along the beaches… cooking my favourite foods, getting books from the library, going to writing groups—it’s been a great time so far; for the first time I’m spending time in Vancouver without working. The good life!
What’s next? Everyone keeps asking me that… I don’t know yet. For now, I’m enjoying myself. Celebrate freedom with me!
